Den Helder has much to offer: strolls along the beach, cycling and hiking the dunes. The city’s cultural and historical monuments are unique: the Old Naval Yard Willemsoord, Fort Kijkduin and the city’s defences the Stelling van Den Helder. It enjoys national fame for its Navy Days and the Beach Four Days’ March. Large parts of Den Helder have become unique nature areas thanks to ecological management, which has received national recognition. The nature reserves De Grafelijkheidsduinen, De Nollen and Het Balgzandpoldertje are favourite visiting places for plant and animal lovers. The woodlands of De Donkere Duinen and Mariëndal are the perfect place to take a walk, have a picnic or feed the deer.
