Koudum is more than a 1,000 years old
and used to be a seafarer’s village. Documents dating from the 9th century name it Colwidum, which means ‘forest on a height’. You will find Koudum’s oldest asset at the 19th century reformed church, in the middle of town. It has one of the most beautiful protestant church interiors of Friesland; the early baroque furniture goes back to the middle of the 17th century. Nowadays Koudum is a pleasant village, situated within the dazzling landscape between the Fluessen, Morra, the IJsselmeer and the Gaasterland forests. Because of this favourable location many water sports enthusiasts pay Koudum’s cozy town centre a visit. Koudum has a lot of nice shops, many accomodations – varying from a nice hotel, boarding house or camping to well-situated holiday homes – and a number of pleasant catering facilities.
